DOB names a company as the owner on each citation. We matched those names to DC's beneficial owner records and followed any companies listed as owners up to the people and organizations at the top. Names that agree apart from punctuation and abbreviations were matched automatically; the rest were checked by hand. The records are a current snapshot, so a company sold since a citation shows its current owners. Fines shown are assessed amounts on open violations; DC does not publish collected amounts. Under DC law, a company's beneficial owners are anyone holding more than 10% of it, directly or through other companies, and anyone with a smaller stake, or none, who controls its financial or operational decisions or directs its day-to-day operations (D.C. Code § 29-102.01). Companies report this themselves and DC doesn't verify it, so a listing can be out of date or incomplete. If something here is wrong, tell us.
